Girls inspired at Maritime Roadshows

In March, on International Women’s Day we launched our Girls Roadshow programme and the fantastic news that the Department for Transport would support a series of events across the Country.

It’s been a busy couple of months showcasing the fantastic careers there are in Maritime. Our Roadshow Team and fantastic Partners and Role Models have delivered inspiring days for over 600 girls in; Portsmouth, Plymouth, Blackpool, Liverpool, Newcastle, London and Dover.

Under the Department for Transport, The Government have launched their long-term strategy ‘Maritime 2050’. At the heart of Government there is a vision for the maritime industry’s workforce. Within three decades they want to create a diverse workforce that is equipped with the right skills and is able to nimbly adapt to rapidly changing technology.  To realise this vision, they urge industry take action now and do more to enthuse young girls about STEM subjects and maritime careers at sea and on shore.

In helping to promote Maritime careers, the aims of the Roadshow day seek to increase; participation, contribution and confidence of girls in STEM subjects at school; whilst introducing them to positive and inspiring female Maritime role models.

“I think it was very inspirational talking to the different maritime women about their careers – I learnt so much in one day.”

We can’t wait to inspire even more girls in 2020 at our remaining locations.
