Land Rover BAR win ‘Sport for Environment Award’ at the prestigious Beyond Sport Awards

Land Rover BAR, the British Challenger for the 35th America’s Cup, last night won the Sport for Environment Award at the Beyond Sport Awards which promote, support and reward the best projects across the globe that are using sport to make positive social change.

Land Rover BAR’s mission is to win the America’s Cup whilst being the most sustainable sports team, extending their influence beyond the race course, leading the way and inspiring others to instinctively drive sustainability forward. They are #RaisingtheBAR across the whole team, rethinking the way they operate, increasing skills, developing technology and protecting their playing field, the waters they sail in, by saying no to single use plastics, installing oyster beds, bee hotels and much more at its base in Portsmouth.

The 1851 Trust is proud to be the official charity of Land Rover BAR. Similarly to Land Rover BAR, sustainability underpins everything the 1851 Trust does. Through its programmes and working with its partners, the Trust helps young people understand and consider their impact on the environment, and encourages them to consider sustainability in all its forms.

Dr Susie Tomson, Land Rover BAR Sustainability Manager, said: “We are proud that Land Rover BAR’s achievements and progress across the board of sustainability have been recognised on the global stage at the Beyond Sports Awards. However, the work doesn’t stop here we are committed to pushing sustainability further within sport and encouraging other sports and teams to harness the power and support of their fans to push the sustainability message around the world”.

Over the last two years, Land Rover BAR have been working closely with its Exclusive Sustainability Partner 11th Hour Racing to “Raise the BAR” and create the UK’s most sustainable sports team. Sustainability is embedded in the team and they aim to set new standards in sustainable sport.
