As 2018 draws to a close, we continue to be pleased by the positive feedback from the 1,000 young people from over 20 schools that have enjoyed an interactive workshop on the Tech Deck this Autumn term; with over 300 of them combining their workshop with a first sailing experience! We also now have over 1,500 teachers at secondary schools across the UK using the resources on our BT STEM CREW platform to inspire their pupils in maths, science and D&T lessons.
Teacher’s feedback is very important to us and, at the bottom of this 1851 Trust update, I share comments from teachers whose pupils took part in our Go Sail programme recently. The comments highlight the positive impact that Trust’s education and sailing programmes have to both the academic and personal development of each young person that take part.
In 2019, we will be creating many more opportunities for young people to be inspired by INEOS TEAM UK’s exciting challenge for the 36th America’s Cup and to think differently about their own development. I look forward to sharing further news of these exciting developments for the 1851 Trust and our young beneficiaries over the next 12 months.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2019!
“Our children come from extremely challenging backgrounds and our parents often cannot find the money that is necessary in order to send their children on fantastic days like these. It is an incredible opportunity for our young people to take part in – not only can many of them not swim but we have children who have never even seen the sea. This is exactly the type of activity that our children need not only to help them be safe around water but also due to the team-building nature of the entire day.”
Primary School Teacher, Portsmouth.
“The feedback from our students was fantastic….On return to school, we have noticed that our students are more confident in undertaking risks and challenge in the unknown… Pupils have developed their communication skills along with leadership and teamwork”
PE Teacher, Priory School.
