PA’s Raspberry Pi Competition
1851 Trust and PA join forces to inspire the next generation in STEM
EVENT: 1st December 2016
The 1851 Trust were delighted to partner with PA Consulting Group to host a fun-packed STEM day in December 2016 in the Tech Deck and Education Centre at the 1851 Trust and Land Rover BAR’s team base in Portsmouth.
Both the 1851 Trust and PA Consulting are trying to empower young people in STEM activities. As part of the event, students had the opportunity to explore the Tech Deck Education Centre, which has been designed to introduce young people to the technology and innovation behind the design and development of the America’s Cup ‘boats that fly’.
PA also facilitated a coding session aimed at helping entrants with their innovations.
PA’s Raspberry Pi Competition (2016/2017)
Every year PA Consulting organises the PA Raspberry Pi competition – a contest inviting school and college students to put their programming skills to the test to make the world a better place.
The challenge is to produce innovations that will improve the lives of people who have conditions that limit their ability to do things most people take for granted. Inventions could range from technology which helps athletes win a medal in the Paralympics, aids visual impairment or learning difficulties, to those which uses music therapy to help mental health.
PA’s Raspberry Pi competition is a core part of PA’s ongoing work to make the difference for young people. The competition gives teams of students as young as eight the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of computer programming and engineering – valuable skills which have been declining in the UK in recent years.
The 1851 Trust will be attending the competition finals in 2017.
