Tech Deck now open for school visits

1851 Trust Tech Deck

Bring your School to visit the Tech Deck at Land Rover BAR and see the technology that makes the boats that fly!

From 8th September the 1851 Trust will be welcoming school visits to the Land Rover BAR Teck Deck and Education Centre.

Officially launched by the Duchess of Cambridge earlier this summer (2016), the Tech Deck is unusual amongst educational resource centres, being based within the home of a working professional sports team, Land Rover BAR.

Developed for Key Stage 3 of the National Curriculum, the Teck Deck aims to ignite young people’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and to inspire students to continue on to careers in these essential fields

Stable Flight – An interactive game using Oculus Goggles creating a virtual reality experience where users steer the boat and adjust the hydrofoils to get the fastest speed around two different courses

The Tech Deck offers a unique behind-the-scenes experience with hands-on interactive exhibits, enabling visitors to get close to the boats, people and technologies in development that will allow the team to fly faster and sail smarter; helping the British Challenger achieve their goal to bring the America’s Cup home for the first time in its 165-year history.

By sharing and demonstrating the many challenges that the team faces to design, build and race competitively in the America’s Cup, as well as showing the roles science and technology play in developing boats that fly, the team also hope to increase awareness across the nation of their challenge for the America’s Cup.
