The 1851 Trust strengthens team with Claire Locke

The 1851 Trust has today strengthened its Board of Trustees with the addition of Claire Locke. Claire has a strong entrepreneurial background in business, and a passion for improving opportunities for young people. She founded her own company, Artigiano, in 1995 and it went on to be one of the most successful in its field, designing and retailing women’s clothes, shoes and accessories.

The 1851 Trust aims to inspire and engage a new generation through sailing and the marine industry, providing young people with the education, skills and training to become innovators of the future, and stewards of the marine environment.

Claire sold the company in 2006, and joined The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Fellowship, supporting their programme to help young people start their own businesses. She had already moved to the Isle of Wight in 1990, living there ever since, and has just completed her one year term of office as High Sheriff of the island.

Chairman of the 1851 Trust, Sir Keith Mills commented, “We are absolutely thrilled to have Claire join the Board of Trustees. She brings some great commercial skills and a real passion to help young people.”
